Powdermill Nature Reserve is the biological research station of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. The Powdermill Avian Research Center (PARC) is the bird banding and avian research facility at the museum’s research station.

They hold biannual open houses for the public where visitors can see the bird banding process. We visited the one which was held last Fall on Oct 18th, 2025. Located in the Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania, it’s a 1 hr 20 min (65 miles) drive from downtown Pittsburgh.
